Exciting news is buzzing through Plymouth, Michigan, as Plymouth-Canton Community Schools (P-CCS) has announced that an impressive total of 22 high school seniors have made it to the finals of the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program. This is quite an achievement, and it’s a moment of pride for not only the students but also their families and the entire school community.
The competition is fierce, with more than 30,000 students from across the nation vying for their chance at these coveted scholarships. From this large pool, only 6,870 students will actually receive scholarships, which makes the honor of being a finalist all the more special. In fact, being recognized as a National Merit finalist places these students among the top less than 1% of high school seniors in the United States.
Each of these finalists has gone through a rigorous application process that takes into account multiple factors including PSAT/NMSQT scores, academic performance, and other noteworthy achievements. The students also had to demonstrate leadership roles, a commitment to community service, and even an employment history. It’s a full spectrum of evaluations that highlights not just academic success, but also character and service.
The excitement continues as these finalists await the announcement of scholarship winners, which is set to take place in March 2023. Students are competing for a variety of scholarship types available through the National Merit Scholarship program. Specifically, there are:
