3 Michigan Universities Among Top 500 in the World, U.S. News Ranking Says

A trio of Michigan universities have made it to the list of the best in the world, as per the latest U.S. News and World Report’s 2024-2025 Best Global University rankings. With an evaluation of 2,271 institutions worldwide, the rankings took into account various factors including research reputation both domestically and internationally, research and publication citations, international collaboration, and more.

The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor secured an impressive spot at No. 19 globally. It ranked in the top 25 internationally in numerous categories such as arts and humanities, biology and biochemistry, clinical medicine, economics and business, education, mathematics, public health, and more. Particularly noteworthy was its top-5 position in regional research reputation.

Michigan State University, located in East Lansing, also made its mark by securing the 123rd position globally. The university’s education and educational research program stood out by ranking at No. 5 internationally, while its plant and animal science program also made it to the top 20. As a research institution, Michigan State University stood in the top 50 in the U.S. and 63rd globally.

Wayne State University in Detroit rounded up the Michigan universities in the top 500, securing the No. 466 spot globally. Collectively, the three universities form the University Research Corridor and have contributed significantly to the economy, generating $24 billion in economic impact through research and innovation in the previous year.

Harvard University Secures the Top Spot
