60th Edition of Farmington Founders Festival Returns This Weekend

The event that perhaps defines Farmington unlike any other is set to return to the city’s downtown soon. The much-awaited 60th edition of the Farmington Founders Festival is scheduled to take place July 18-20.

Anticipating Bigger Crowd

After witnessing more than 43,000 enthusiasts at the last year’s festival, the current Farmington Mayor, Joe LaRussa, is hopeful for an even bigger crowd this year. The festival coincides with the city’s bicentennial, suggesting a potential boost in attendance figures.

Festival Highlights

The Farmington Founders Festival is known for its diversity and family-friendly environment. This year’s festival will include beloved events such as the Farmington Founders Festival Parade, the Farmington Fido Fest, a 5K color run, and a crafters market. A unique addition this year is the Farmington Bicentennial Steering Committee inspired ‘Decades Parade’.

The Farmington Founders Festival Parade

A signature fixture of the festival is the Farmington Founders Festival Parade, which is scheduled to take place along Grand River Avenue at 10 a.m. July 20. This year’s parade features a creative twist. Each participating group has been asked to choose a different decade to represent, helping to create a living timeline of the city.

Farmington Fido Fest and 5K Color Run

Animal lovers can look forward to the Farmington Fido Fest, which runs from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. July 19 and 20. For those who love to run, a 5K Color Run that goes through Shiawassee Park and downtown Farmington is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 20.

Kids Area and Crafters Market

Keeping up the tradition of family fun, the festival will feature a kids area complete with bounce houses, stage shows, a foam party, and a Lego sculpture. A crafters market showcasing vintage decor, handmade consumables and furniture will also run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 19 and 20.

Bicentennial Celebrations

Alongside the festival, the Bicentennial Steering Committee will have a merchandise table near the entrance of the musical acts tent from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on July 20. A host of food trucks will be stationed near the tent, ensuring plenty of refreshment options for festival attendees.

Unique Blend of Tradition and Community

The Farmington Founders Festival is an important community event that not only invites locals to relish in the festivities, but also draws a lot of visitors to downtown Farmington. As Mayor LaRussa aptly stated, “The Founders Festival is a great adhesive for community fabric.”
