Canton Township Gears Up for Supervisor Election
As the sun sets on a beautiful fall in Canton Township, residents are gearing up for an important election on November 5. With absentee ballots starting to go out, it’s the perfect time to inform voters about the two candidates running for the coveted township supervisor’s seat. It’s a contest that already has residents talking!
Meet the Candidates
Incumbent Supervisor Anne Marie Graham-Hudak, a Democrat, will be facing off against Pat Williams, a Republican who previously held the supervisor’s position from 2016 to 2020 before being unseated by Graham-Hudak. The winner of this rivalry will earn a four-year term in the supervisor’s office, which is vital for shaping the future of Canton.
Who is Anne Marie Graham-Hudak?
Graham-Hudak brings a wealth of experience to the table. A resident of Canton for over 30 years, she holds a BS in engineering from Boston University and an MBA from Lawrence Technological University. Her commitment to the community shines through in her roles: she was a trustee and planning commissioner before taking on the supervisor role in 2020. Not only that, but she’s also had a solid career as an engineer and project manager for big automotive names like Ford and Chrysler.
Her position allows her to have a strong voice in multiple organizations, such as her role as the current chair of the 35th District Court Authority, and Vice Chair of both the Western Townships Utility Authority and SEMCOG. “These roles give me a powerful platform to advocate for Canton across southeastern Michigan,” she explained.
Pat Williams’ Turn to Shine
On the flip side, we have Pat Williams, who is keen on rekindling the “common-sense driven” vibe he believes Canton has lost. He has lived in Canton for four decades with his wife, Nancy, and has an athletic background as a Realtor. Williams has over 40 years of management experience in the automotive industry, complemented by degrees in metallurgy, business administration, and his previous mastery as local supervisor.
His passion for Canton is evident in his community involvement, including being active in the Canton Chamber of Commerce and even founding the Canton Cares fund. “I’ve heard from a wide range of residents, and they feel unheard. I promise to be accessible and attentive, whether you live in a condo or run a local business,” Williams emphasized.
What’s at Stake?
Both candidates are optimistic but have differing philosophies on key issues. Graham-Hudak, who is proud of her accomplishments since taking office, mentions a staggering $37.7 million in tax dollars funneled into improvements like road repairs, enhancing public safety, and preserving green spaces. “Canton is heading in the right direction,” she insists, saying they have faced natural disasters head-on and emerged stronger.
In contrast, Williams believes Canton needs a more engaging and responsive government approach that prioritizes essential services and community needs over special interests. “My goal is to enhance our quality of life without excessive social engineering,” he remarked, advocating for improvements in parks, roads, and drainage issues that affect local residents.
Looking to the Future
Graham-Hudak is particularly excited about ongoing projects in economic development, partnering with organizations for community investments, and working toward sustainable growth. “Canton’s future looks bright!” she claims, confidently discussing planned expansions and enhancements in infrastructure.
On the other hand, Williams envisioned a return to great public safety services combined with a focus on roads and walkways. “I’ll ensure that every resident’s voice counts, and I’ll bring back regular communication with Wayne County officials to keep Canton’s interests at the forefront,” he said.
Voter Responsibility
As we inch closer to the election, it’s important for all Cantonians to feel empowered in their right to vote and to understand where each candidate stands on the issues that matter most to them. The outcomes of these elections can have significant impacts on the direction Canton Township will take in the years ahead. Residents are encouraged to engage in the process—because every vote counts!
Remember to make your voice heard and cast your ballot this November. It’s an opportunity to shape your community’s future!
