Exciting Changes at Kino Lorber Media Group in New York City
New York City is buzzing with exciting news from the film industry! Kino Lorber Media Group, a well-regarded name in independent arthouse distribution, has officially promoted Monica Bloom to the role of Chief Marketing Officer. This move comes right after she made waves at MHz Choice, a division of the company, where she had been working since June 2023. Now, her responsibilities are expanding to oversee all marketing and communications for Kino Lorber, which includes their popular streaming service, the Kino Film Collection, and their home entertainment operations as well.
A Bright Spot in Streaming and Film
Joining Kino Lorber in June marked a significant moment for Bloom. Her arrival coincided with the company’s joint venture with First Look Media to operate the Topic streaming service. This strategic partnership allowed them to integrate Topic into MHz Choice, which had been acquired in 2022 and specializes in international series. Bloom has been recognized for her instrumental role in enhancing the subscriber acquisition and retention efforts at MHz Choice. She crafted clever campaigns, including one for the acclaimed German series Babylon Berlin, a title that has become a signature offering of the service.
What This Means Moving Forward
As Bloom steps into her new role, she will be at the helm of everything related to brand, digital, and title marketing for Kino Lorber. Her duties will encompass both streaming and home entertainment initiatives, focusing on ways to attract and retain subscribers, as well as managing all communications and publicity for the company. Bloom will continue to report to Martha Benyam, the Chief Operating Officer.
A Legacy of Success
Kino Lorber has a rich history in the world of independent film distribution, boasting an impressive library of around 4,000 titles. Their commitment to cinema is clear with an annual release of approximately 35 films in theaters. Over the last 20 years, the company has garnered 12 Oscar nominations, including one nomination this very year for the Best Documentary Feature for the powerful film Four Daughters.
A Fresh Perspective and New Opportunities
The company also recently amplified its streaming capacity by bringing in key players from AMC Networks, including Ed Carroll as the Chief Strategy Officer and Lisa Schwartz as the Chief Revenue Officer. After a short while, Carroll was promoted to President, showing that Kino Lorber is serious about making bold moves in the entertainment landscape.
Bloom’s Vision
Bloom’s journey before joining Kino Lorber includes significant roles at Tribeca Shortlist (in collaboration with Lionsgate Entertainment), Sundance TV, and (RED). Adding to her impressive résumé, she also serves as Vice Chair for the Alliance for Women in Media, an organization that presents the prestigious Gracie Awards. In light of her promotion, Benyam praised Bloom as a thoughtful brand strategist and creative leader, emphasizing her commitment to enhancing audience engagement, which she has already demonstrated at MHz Choice.
Excited for the Future
Feeling enthusiastic about her new responsibilities, Bloom expressed her gratitude for being part of a company that is passionate about connecting audiences with independent artists and international storytelling. She stated, “It’s tremendously gratifying to work at a company dedicated to helping audiences discover the work of independent artists and acclaimed international voices.”
As Kino Lorber continues to expand its reach in the film and streaming world, all eyes will be on Bloom and her innovative strategies. Stay tuned for more thrilling developments from this beloved media group!
