News Summary

During a recent fireside chat, Novi Mayor Justin Fischer highlighted the significant progress made by the city over the past year. Key initiatives include the opening of Jessica’s Splashpad, expansion of pickleball courts, road improvements, and a focus on community engagement. With ambitious plans for the future, residents can expect continued growth, enhanced public safety, and new developments, all while aiming for a debt-free future as Novi thrives.

Novi, Michigan: Mayor Highlights City Progress in Recent Fireside Chat

In a delightful gathering held at the Suburban Collection Showplace on March 21, 2025, Mayor Justin Fischer took a moment to reflect on the impressive strides Novi has made in just over a year. Alongside Director of Communications Sheryl Walsh-Molloy, the mayor shared insights into the current state of the city and looked ahead at promising projects on the horizon.

A Year of Achievements

This past year has been described as nothing short of transformational. The mayor noted that the city council has bonded well and worked seamlessly in tackling critical issues and making decisions in the best interest of the residents. Fischer highlighted several key initiatives and developments that have contributed to the city’s growth and vibrancy.

Community Spaces Flourishing

One of the most exciting additions to Novi was the opening of Jessica’s Splashpad, which debuted last summer in memory of beloved meteorologist Jessica Starr-Rose. This fun-filled water playground attracted an astounding 20,000 visitors in its very first year alone, even earning an mParks design award! What a perfect place for families to cool off and enjoy some outdoor fun.

Another shining gem is the Northwest Park, which opened in July 2024. Designed as a natural park for gathering rather than sports, it serves as a peaceful escape for residents looking to connect with nature. It’s wonderful to see these kinds of quality spaces being offered in the community!

Pickleball Craze!

The surge in popularity for pickleball has been evidenced by the city’s expansion of courts—from just 4 to an impressive 12 courts throughout Novi, including new setups at both Meadowbrook Commons and Wildlife Woods Park. With such rapid growth in this sport, the excitement is palpable!

Making Room with New Acquisitions

New Developments Pop Up

More developments are cropping up as the city sees significant activity at the intersection of Novi Road and Grand River. This busy area is slated for residential and commercial opportunities, including the Sakura Novi Development with 113 residential units and various retail spaces on Grand River Avenue, alongside the Townes at Main Street featuring 192 units at Atwood Avenue. More housing means more community engagement and growth!

Road Improvements a Top Priority

Good news for commuters: the city has successfully completed three major road projects, including improvements on Wixom Road and Beck Road, as well as taking over a lingering project on 13 Mile Road. Smooth roads equate to happier drivers and less stress when navigating the city.

Commitment to Public Safety

The health of the Novi Police Department has bounced back, fully recovering from pandemic-induced staffing shortages. The fire department, too, has reached full capacity. Residents can feel secure knowing their safety is in proficient hands.

Financially Sound Future

In an exciting financial update, the city anticipates being debt-free after completing the library bond this year. Moreover, plans are in motion for a 1 mill bond aimed specifically at enhancing public safety buildings. It seems like Novi is on the right financial track!

Engaging the Community

Perhaps one of the most notable initiatives is the city’s new long-term strategic plan set for 2050. This endeavor is all about community engagement—inviting residents to voice their input on what is needed for the city’s future. It’s all about working together to ensure that the path ahead benefits everyone.

Looking Ahead

Overall, the outlook for the future seems bright, with Fischer confident that Novi is headed toward a strong, vibrant, and fiscally sound future. The drop in crime rates by 12% last year showcases the success of safety measures, solidifying Novi’s standing as one of Michigan’s nationally accredited agencies.

It’s truly an exciting time for Novi, and as the city continues to evolve, residents have much to look forward to. With all these developments and a focus on community involvement, who wouldn’t want to be part of this vibrant city?
