Review of Updated Flood Maps Invites Wayne County Residents

Wayne County has invited its residents and business owners to review updated flood risk information and flood insurance rate maps (FIRMs). This initiative encourages property owners to educate themselves about local flood risks and potential future flood insurance requirements. This latest information can be accessed on the website created by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The updated maps have been produced in consultation with FEMA, local and state officials. While a significant community review has already taken place, a 90-day appeal and comment period has been outlined for community stakeholders to raise any concerns or queries about the information provided.

If property owners notice any inaccurate detail, such as a misspelled road name in the Special Flood Hazard Area, they can provide written comments. The final step in the mapping process is to address all comments and appeals. FEMA will then notify communities about the effective date of the final maps.
