Michigan’s Largest Convention Center Extends Management Contract

In a significant development, the Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority (DRCFA) has announced the extension of a management contract with ASM Global at Huntington Place. This renowned venue is not only the largest convention center in Michigan but also holds the distinction of being the 16th largest in the United States. The DRCFA operates in conjunction with the Michigan State Legislature, the City of Detroit, Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, as well as an appointee chosen by the Michigan State Governor.

Continued Success and Future Plans

DRCFA’s chief executive officer, Bryan Crowe, spoke about the extended partnership with ASM Global, remarking, “In partnership with the DRCFA, ASM Global has been instrumental in establishing Huntington Place as a globally recognized destination for meetings and conventions.” Crowe cited several high-profile events hosted by the center, including the Detroit Auto Show, which draws over a million visitors annually.

ASM Global will support the DRCFA’s forthcoming strategic initiatives, according to Crowe. He mentioned the proposed Convention Center Expansion Project and the planned development of a new hotel adjacent to the convention center, which are essential measures to ensure that Detroit remains competitive in attracting large-scale events from around the United States and overseas.

Dan Hoffend, ASM Global’s executive vice president of convention centers, voiced his gratitude for the DRCFA’s continued trust in Huntington Place’s management, saying, “We are honored by the DRCFA’s continued confidence in our team. This extension allows us to build upon our achievements and ensure Detroit remains a prime destination for conventions, trade shows, and events.

Impressive Records

Huntington Place held a whopping 146 events in 2023, welcoming over 457,000 attendees. The economic impact from both local and international attendees in FY 2023 is estimated to be around $303.1 million.

Sustainable and Commendeable Practices

Huntington Place has been ASTM / APEX certified by the Events Industry Council since 2015 and achieved a LEED Gold Certification in 2019, thus earning the title of the largest LEED building in Michigan. The venue regularly holds meetings with its Green Committee to promote sustainable practices. As part of their commitment to environmental practices, they have implemented programs including food efficiency and donation, composting, energy-consumption reduction, and specialized recycling. These efforts have earned the building numerous industry awards, including the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership Award for Building Performance.

Conclusion

As Michigan’s largest convention center, Huntington Place’s commitment to operational excellence, sustainable practices, and continuous improvements demonstrates why it’s considered a premier destination for major local and international events. The extended partnership with ASM Global is set to bring continued success and growth in the years to come.
