ABC Group Sales & Engineering Inc. Announces Closure of Saline Plant

ABC Group Sales & Engineering Inc. Announces Closure of Saline Plant

Mark Decker, Chief Human Resources Officer for ABC Technologies, officially announced on July 10, 2024, that the ABC Group Sales & Engineering Inc. location in Saline, Michigan, will be permanently shutting down its operations by the end of the year.

A Sudden Decision Carrying Wide Impact

The decision, revealed through a letter sent to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, stated that the facility at 1294 Beach Ct. Saline, MI 48176, previously known as Windsor Mold Group plant, would cease all operations on or by December 31, 2024. ABC Technologies acquired Windsor Mold Group in 2022 and incorporated it into its operations.

Announcement in Accordance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification

The closure of the plant is being done in accordance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1988 (WARN), which requires employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of qualified plant closings and mass layoff events.

Implications for the Workforce

The closure will affect approximately 166 workers, including 90 operators and the plant’s general manager. The announcement comes as a shock to the community, which is grappling with the economic implications of the closure. All positions at the Saline facility are being eliminated due to this unforeseen occurrence.

Options for the Affected Employees

However, it is not entirely bleak for the employees. Decker stated that the product line would be shifted to another ABC Technologies manufacturing facility in Wyoming, Michigan and offered that all employees would be given an opportunity to move with the business.

Change for Saline and Michigan

The closure of the ABC Group Sales & Engineering Inc. plant in Saline marks a significant shift in the industrial landscape of the town and Michigan as a whole. Local communities mirror the shock of the decision while anticipating the economic repercussions that could follow. Despite the unfortunate closure, the company maintains that it is committed to its employees and will take necessary measures to help ease the transition.
