The year 2024 is undoubtedly a milestone for the American Case Management Association (ACMA) as it joyfully commemorates its 25th anniversary. And what better way to celebrate than with a fantastic gathering of case management professionals from across the country? Over 1,800 attendees joined in on the excitement at the ACMA 25th Anniversary National Conference, held in the vibrant city known for its rich musical heritage.
This three-day event was packed with education, networking opportunities, and even a special concert at the iconic Grand Ole Opry. The vibe? Electric! Participants shared ideas, connected with peers, and immersed themselves in the latest trends and best practices in case management. It’s incredible how these gatherings foster a sense of community while also being informative.
In a sign of its growing influence, the ACMA has seen its membership soar, surpassing 20,000 members nationwide. This includes a diverse group of case managers, social workers, nurses, physicians, and professionals focused on managing transitions of care. To honor dedication and excellence, the ACMA awarded the prestigious Case Management Hero Award to three outstanding individuals in 2024. These honorees, Robin Simpson (recognized posthumously), Liane Sigl, and Kyle Gaylean, have made significant contributions to the field.
The festivities didn’t stop there! The launch of the Karen Vanaskie Scholarship Fund added another feather to ACMA’s cap. This scholarship aims to support hardworking professionals who are pursuing the ACMA’s Accredited Case Manager Certification. The fund stands as a tribute to Karen Vanaskie, a tireless advocate for excellence in the world of case management.
One of the standout moments of the conference was ACMA’s collaboration with the Association of Physician Leadership in Care Management. Together, they unveiled findings from two important research surveys that have been collecting valuable data since 2001. These include the National Case Management and Transitions of Care Survey and the Physician Leaders in Care Management Survey. It’s exciting to see how this research contributes to improving care management strategies!
ACMA continues to bolster its educational offerings too! They introduced a comprehensive Health Plan Library, featuring over 30 hours of content contained in more than 65 modules across 18 courses. This library aims to provide case managers and transitions of care professionals with essential insights, ensuring they stay at the cutting edge of their profession. Even more impressively, this tool has been utilized by over 70% of U.S. hospitals.
National Case Management Week was also celebrated in tandem with the Commission for Case Manager Certification, under the engaging theme, “Case Management: Encouraging, Engaging & Empowering.” This week not only recognizes the hard work of professionals in the field, but also serves as a reminder of their vital role in the healthcare continuum.
Adding to the excitement, ACMA launched a new podcast series titled “Care Transitions Today: Case Conversations.” This engaging audio series takes listeners through real-world medical cases and discusses practical best practices for engaged case management and care transitions.
In line with its commitment to excellence, ACMA revised its original Transitions of Care (TOC) Standards in collaboration with Pfizer. The newly unveiled TOC 2.0 standards now place a stronger emphasis on addressing Social Determinants of Health (SDOH)—an essential aspect of quality patient care today.
The American Case Management Association has undoubtedly made a significant impact in the field of case management since its inception in 1999. Its unwavering dedication to providing resources, education, and support ensures that case managers and transitions of care professionals remain equipped to serve patients and the healthcare community effectively.
