Ann Arbor Set for Four-Day Street Shutdown!

Big Changes Coming to Prairie Street

Residents of Ann Arbor, get ready for some detours! Starting Monday, February 12, Prairie Street will be fully closed between Plymouth Road and Briarcliff Street. This closure is part of a four-day construction project that aims to improve utilities for a new development in the area. You might want to rethink your usual routes as the city officials have officially announced this closure.

What’s Happening?

The construction contractor will be on-site to demolish utility leads to a commercial building. And guess what? This work will take place every day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the project wraps up by Thursday, February 15. So, if you usually travel through this part of town, you’ll want to plan ahead.

What’s Planned for the Area?

In case you’re wondering why the sudden hullabaloo along Prairie Street, there’s a new University of Michigan Credit Union sprouting up in the vicinity. The credit union will take over a spot that used to be home to a two-story office building, following a city plan that received the green light back in 2023. The transformation of this area isn’t just about a bank—it’s about making Ann Arbor even better!

Detours You Need to Know

As Prairie Street locks its gates, don’t fret! There’s a plan in place to help you navigate around the construction. Here’s how it’ll work:

  • Northbound Prairie Street: You’ll be directed to turn west on Plymouth, head north on Nixon Road, and then east on Aurora Street back to Prairie.
  • Southbound traffic: You’ll need to head west on Briarcliff Street, west on Aurora Street, south on Nixon, and you’ll loop back east on Plymouth to finally get back to Prairie.

So, even if you’re not a fan of detours, this navigation guide should help you get through without too much fuss!

Access to Businesses and Pedestrian Traffic

Good news for all the local shopaholics—access will remain open to all businesses near the shutdown area during this time! This means you can still support your favorite spots even amidst the construction chaos.

Additionally, if you’re a pedestrian, no need to worry! You can still stroll along the east side of the street without any major disruptions. So feel free to walk around and enjoy the fresh air while keeping an eye out for any construction activity!

Final Thoughts

While the initial disruption may be a bit of a nuisance, remember that this is all part of progress. So as the construction crew gets to work, let’s keep our spirits high and look forward to the improvements that are set to enrich our beloved Ann Arbor!

Don’t forget to plan your routes and share this information with your neighbors. Safe travels, everyone!
