Police in Michigan are investigating a string of incidents that have occurred, which are believed to be politically motivated. Among these incidences is an unfortunate occurrence where a 22-year-old man allegedly ran over an 80-year-old who was in the act of putting up a Trump sign. The young man was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the police.
Authorities responded to three separate incidences, with one case being a man on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) allegedly hurting an elderly man. The other two were of vehicles said to be deliberately vandalized. This shocking string of events occurred in Hancock, a city situated in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula near Lake Superior. The 80-year-old man was then rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Initial investigations revealed that the culprit had seemingly targeted not just Trump supporters but also those showing support for law enforcement. This behavior was apparent with the victims who showcased Trump signs, as well as individuals who displayed stickers or flags in appreciation of law enforcement. This specifically includes flags displaying the “thin blue line”.
Officers were alerted by a man who claimed to “confess a crime involving an ATV driver within the last 24 hours” the subsequent day. Following directions to the caller’s residence in Quincy Township, authorities reportedly found a 22-year-old man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The police managed to obtain a search warrant for the house where they were able to retrieve electronic devices, clothing worn by the suspect, and the ATV as reported used in the crime. The 22-year-old’s official cause and manner of death are expected to be disclosed following an autopsy.
As of Tuesday, the police emphasized that there is no further cause for public alarm. The case remains under active investigation, with Michigan State Police and the FBI among other agencies aiding in the process. Individuals with any supplementary information about the case are encouraged to contact the Hancock police or the sheriff’s office.
