It all began with a handshake between two passionate individuals, Bob Fish and Michael McFall, who decided to franchise their idea with just $4,000 in their pockets. Before jumping into the world of coffee, Buison had quite a different career path. He spent 10 years in the automotive IT industry before making a shift into home healthcare, working alongside his wife, Eileen. The couple decided to embark on the BIGGBY franchise adventure as a way to diversify their business portfolio, creating a sweet blend of community service and entrepreneurial spirit.
Growing up in Livonia, Buison felt a strong pull to open his first café right in his hometown. His vision was to give back and nurture the community he loves. Currently, he proudly owns four BIGGBY COFFEE locations and has ambitious plans for 3-4 more cafes throughout Oakland County. Buison is not just in it for the coffee; he’s genuinely dedicated to enhancing the community’s spirit by being involved in various local organizations, including the Chamber of Commerce and the Human Relations Commission.
The COVID-19 pandemic presented many hurdles, but Buison was ready to adapt. Thanks to the strong connections he forged with the community, his business not only survived but thrived during those tough times. He even went the extra mile to relocate his shop, enhancing customer convenience with a new drive-thru service, a much-appreciated addition during those challenging months.
Looking ahead, big things are in store for BIGGBY COFFEE in Livonia. The City Council has recently approved plans for a new location at the southeast corner of Plymouth and Middlebelt roads, also coming with a drive-thru feature. Fingers crossed, this new café is set to open by early spring, pending construction vibes and permitting schedules. With plans for a separate study room, this location could become a hotspot for students and community groups, further enhancing the coffee culture across Livonia.
The arrival of this new BIGGBY location isn’t just about coffee; it aims to breathe new life into a previously occupied space and could even inspire further business developments in the area. Local council members are optimistic that Buison’s venture will cultivate an even more welcoming atmosphere in Livonia.
