Canton Local Man Killed After Disagreement with Neighbor

Tragedy unfolded in the quiet neighborhood of Canton when a resident, Nathan Morris, age 35, was shot and killed following a squabble with a neighbor, according to reports.

Understood to be a committed Christian, loving husband, and father, and an engineer at Ford Motors, Morris had become politically active when his employers made the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory. His primary advocacy was to ensure the safety of schools for his two daughters, Molly and Zoey.

As reported, the incident took place after Morris and his family were out for a local walk, during which his young daughter touched the mulch in a neighbor’s yard. The neighbor responded with threats and a firearm, causing Morris to direct his family to return home while he tried to de-escalate the situation. Tragically, Morris was later found in the street with a gunshot wound. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he could not survive his injuries.

The accused, Devereaux Christopher Johnson, 47 years old, was reported to have barricaded himself in his house after the incident. However, he surrendered to the police after a short standoff and has been charged with first-degree murder and various other felonies. Johnson pleaded not guilty and underwent a mental competency exam at the request of a judge.

The victim’s friend, Edward McCall, expressed his grief, calling the event “monstrous” and shocking given the triviality of the original disagreement.

This horrific event has thrown the Canton community into mourning, as they contend with the loss of a devoted father and friend in such a senseless act of violence.
