Livonia, Michigan, is about to welcome a new eatery, bringing an end to another celebrity-driven venture. Shaquille O’Neal’s Big Chicken franchise has announced its plans to open in Livonia at 30130 Plymouth Road, a spot that recently housed Guy Fieri’s Chicken Guy.

Goodbye Chicken Guy

Guy Fieri’s Chicken Guy operated in this gray brick building from spring 2023 until June 30, before closing its doors. The local partners of Chicken Guy, the Tomey Group, cited “unforeseen circumstances beyond our control” for the unexpected closure. They expressed gratitude towards both their patrons and team members in a statement shared with the public.

“We are incredibly grateful for the patronage we have received from our loyal customers and the local community,” the statement said. They assured their employees that they would be offered opportunities in their other businesses, emphasizing a commitment to a smooth transition.

Founded in 2018, O’Neal’s Big Chicken has quickly grown in popularity, establishing locations across the United States. Cities like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Dayton, Ohio already host these eateries, which are known for their crispy chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, and a unique Cheez-It crusted mac and cheese.
