Community Action of Orleans & Genesee has opened a new office at 131 South Main Street, improving accessibility for families in need. The move enhances vital services like Emergency Services and Case Management, and will now include a food pantry. The organization’s commitment to community welfare is evident as they gear up for the holiday season, aiming to assist families through various programs and a collaborative spirit with local charities.
Exciting news for families in the local area! Community Action of Orleans & Genesee has officially opened the doors to their brand new office at 131 South Main Street. This new location, conveniently situated behind the agency’s popular Main Street Thrifts, Gifts, and More store, is set to greatly enhance accessibility for those in need of support. Families that may have struggled to get help due to transportation issues will find this location much easier to reach.
The move from the previous address at 409 East State Street aims to make it simpler for families to access vital Emergency Services and Case Management programs. These programs play a huge role in assisting families facing financial crunches, helping them navigate through challenges like food and utility bills. For those looking to visit, don’t forget to enter the plaza through the Platt Street entrance to find the new office with ease!
In addition to the essential services offered, the new office will also house a food pantry, which has moved from its location on State Street. While the new office becomes the main hub for food assistance, the overnight pantry at the East State Street address will remain open for after-hours needs. This means that no matter when hunger strikes, help is just around the corner!
Community Action is not just stopping at basic assistance! They are involved in the New York Health Equity Reform (NYHER) Program, which is designed to support Medicaid members by screening for unmet needs in areas like housing, nutrition, and transportation. Eligible members can benefit from free services based on their needs, making it easier for them to focus on their health and well-being.
The dedicated team at Community Action understands the importance of treating these issues comprehensively. They are committed to serving their community, which spans across both Orleans and Genesee counties, reaching about 5,000 individuals annually. This level of engagement is a testament to their almost 60 years of operation and commitment to the community’s welfare.
The holiday season is approaching, and Community Action is gearing up to spread joy! This year, they have received 293 applications representing 793 individuals for their holiday assistance program. Among the beneficiaries, 149 children will receive toys for Christmas, thanks to generous donations from local organizations. Families will also be delighted with festive holiday boxes filled with food and gifts for children under 18. A Giving Tree at the Main Street Corner Thrift Store is inviting community members to fulfill Christmas wishes for local children.
A collaborative spirit is alive and well as Community Action partners with local charities for food assistance and holiday support. To top it all off, a stunning mural is in the works on the south wall of the Main Street Gifts, Thrift, and More Store, painted by local artist David Burke. This mural, funded by a grant from the Statewide Community Regrant Program, symbolizes the community’s focus on inclusivity and support for all.
For families needing assistance or wanting to learn more about Community Action’s Emergency Services, Case Management, or food programs, reaching out is simple! Just give them a call at (585) 589-5605 or visit their website at www.caoginc.org.
With such a broad range of services, from child care to housing and transportation assistance, Community Action is truly a cornerstone in the community. They are here for anyone who needs a helping hand. Let’s welcome them into this new chapter!
