In Westland, a peaceful weekend evening turned disastrous after a local couple, Luke and Hailey Vinsko, were hit by a vehicle in their very own driveway. The couple had just enjoyed their first date night since the birth of their twins when the incident occurred.
The driver, a 43-year-old woman, allegedly deliberately wrecked several vehicles on Florence Street’s 3400 block, causing significant damage and injuries. Tragically, 32-year-old Luke Vinsko bore the brunt of the accident. His cars in his driveway were struck so forcefully that they were propelled into the garage, trapping him under one of his vehicles.
Rushed to the hospital with severe injuries, Luke underwent an emergency amputation of one leg. His other leg was also not spared and had broken toes. The law enforcement authorities apprehended the female suspect who now faces various charges, including deliberate vehicle collisions and inflicting grievous harm on Luke.
Investigations reveal that alcohol and drugs likely played a factor in the unfortunate incident. Bizarrely, according to information gathered, the violent rampage appears to be targeted at an ex-boyfriend of the female suspect, who formerly lived in the Vinsko residence. Eyewitness reports add a chilling detail – the suspect seemed to have been laughing prior to her eventual emotional breakdown in front of the police officers.
In response to this horrific event, the Vinskos’ friends have initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with expenses. Luke and Hailey lost both their cars in the incident— both vehicles are now evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
The arraignment of the female suspect is scheduled for Tuesday morning. The Westland Police Traffic Bureau and the Western Wayne Crash Response Team continue to delve into the incident’s details, which will be submitted for further review to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
