Fire Outbreak in Northville Townhome Leaves Two Cats Suffering from Smoke Inhalation
A fire broke out in a townhome located in the quiet neighborhood of Northville near Taft and Eight Mile. People living in the vicinity were fortunate to escape harm but unfortunately, two cats present in the home had to endure smoke inhalation as a result of the incident.
Emergency services responded promptly, arriving at The Coves of Northville before 1 AM on Wednesday. It appears that the fire initially broke out on the second floor of one of the homes.
“The two cats in the incinerated home endured some heavy smoke exposure,” stated the fire chief on the scene. Initial treatment of the animals involved administering oxygen and thankfully, they are expected to pull through this traumatic experience.
While the fire was mainly contained within the unit where it originated, the immediate neighboring homes were unfortunately not entirely spared. Water and smoke infiltrated about four or five different units nearby, leaving the dozen or so residents temporarily displaced. These folks may be able to return to their homes in a day or so following thorough ventilation.
The main casualty was of course the unit where the fire first broke out. Sadly, it has been declared a total loss by fire officials.
Effects on the Community
Local residents are shaken by the incident. While there are plans to address the damage caused by the fire, the concern at the moment is geared towards supporting folks displaced by the incident.
The fear and distress caused by such unexpected disasters remind us of the importance of emergency preparedness. It is advised that people always have a plan in place in case of such exigencies.
As for the two brave cats that fell victim to smoke inhalation, a full recovery is expected. Despite the unfortunate incident, health officials have reassured that they are doing everything possible to ensure that the animals bounce back soon and are back on their feline feet.
