Under a new contract, HAP CareSource, a joint venture between HAP, a Michigan-based nonprofit health plan, and CareSource, a nationally recognized nonprofit managed care organization, has confirmed the State of Michigan’s recommendation to expand their Medicaid service area.
On October 1st, the Michigan Comprehensive Health Care Program under HAP CareSource is expected to go live. The contract covers a period of five years with the potential for a three-year extension and will serve counties in the newly awarded regions – Region 7 (including Clinton, Easton, and Ingham) and Region 9 (including Jackson, Hillsdale, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, and Washtenaw). Continuation of service will be maintained in the current regions – Region 6 (including Genesee, Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac, Shiawassee, St. Clair, and Tuscola) and Region 10 (including Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne). The expansion effectively increases the service area to cover an estimated 65% or 1.85 million of Medicaid-eligible lives in Michigan.
“We are honored that the State of Michigan selected HAP CareSource to help Michigan’s most vulnerable people and families. We’re excited to bring our track record of exceptional customer service, an expansive provider network, and exemplary patient care to even more of Michigan’s Medicaid population,” said Dr. Michael Genord, president, and CEO of HAP.
HAP CareSource’s expansion in the state provides high-quality, equitable health care coverage to multiple Michigan residents. The service extension reaches more areas in the state, thereby driving a new model of care. By addressing glaring health disparities in both rural and urban communities, HAP CareSource aims to positively impact the state’s social determinants of health priorities.
“We knew when we conceived the Medicaid Plan under HAP CareSource; it was the start of something important,” remarked Sarah Musser, Vice President of Market Operations – Michigan at HAP CareSource. Musser further stressed how HAP’s historical experience and brand awareness in Michigan and CareSource’s innovation in Medicaid programs combine to enrich lives in the state.
Health Alliance Plan (HAP), a Michigan-based health coverage provider for individuals and companies of all sizes, and CareSource, a nationally recognized managed care organization with over 2 million members, created HAP CareSource. Together, they offer comprehensive health coverage, access to top physicians, and quality care with compassion. The collaboration also allows more Michigan residents to access award-winning products, services, plus an expanded provider network. It also broadens services to Medicaid-eligible individuals across the lower peninsula.
