At the heart of Hochul’s strategy is a $100 million investment aimed at boosting the construction of starter homes and offering down payment assistance to first-time homebuyers. She believes these measures are crucial in making home ownership more accessible, especially in a state where rents and mortgages are notoriously high.
Another significant element of Hochul’s agenda includes limiting corporate ownership of single- and two-family homes. This proposal aims to create a more balanced housing market that doesn’t favor large corporations and their resources over individuals and families trying to secure their first homes.
