Advanced Work Improves Electric Reliability for Livonia

Livonia residents can expect **better and more reliable electricity** as major progress has been made on enhancing the power grid in the area. Since fall of 2023, there has been ongoing work to advance electric reliability on several key circuits within the city. The focus has been on eight specific circuits that were identified as underperforming. Significant upgrades have been completed, spanning over 50 miles, to ensure that electricity service is more reliable and interruption durations are shorter.

These crucial areas cover a broad range of customers, including major sites like the municipal complex, city hall, first responders, and heating/cooling centers. Countless local businesses and thousands of residential customers are also benefitting from these improvements. To date, extensive work has been done, including **replacing over 200 power poles, upgrading pole top equipment, adding animal guards, and various other upgrades as needed**.

An essential part of the effort has been focused on **targeted tree trimming**. Nearly 120 miles of tree trimming and/or removal has been planned for 2024, with most already completed. Trees and their branches are a primary cause of power outages, accounting for half of the outage time experienced by customers. Trimming these trees away from power equipment significantly enhances electric reliability, especially during extreme weather events.

As the project progresses, you can expect to see a **remarkable improvement in the overall electric reliability** in Livonia, particularly in areas where the tree trim and equipment upgrades have been finished. The completion of this project means 98% of the city will be back on a regular tree trim schedule, ensuring ongoing maintenance and reliability.

Keep an eye out for more updates throughout 2024, as frontline crews continue their work to enhance electric service for Livonia customers.
