Heartbreaking End for a Respectable Iowa Middle School Principal in Lake Michigan Tragedy
LUDINGTON, MI – In a tragic turn of events, a 44-year-old man lost his life after being pulled from the perilous waters of Lake Michigan. The incident occurred on Tuesday, during a family vacation at the Ludington State Park. The man was identified as Mark Scholes, an esteemed middle school principal from Oskaloosa, Iowa.
An Alarming 911 Call
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office provided that they received a distress call at about 1:49 p.m., reporting a man floundering in the lake. Lifeguards pulled the struggling swimmer from the water immediately.
Despite the swift response from the park officials and emergency personnel, Scholes’ condition rapidly deteriorated. Medical personnel administered CPR at the scene, but unfortunately, their efforts proved unsuccessful. Scholes was pronounced dead at the scene.
A ‘Probable Drowning’
The Sheriff’s Office has deemed the incident a ‘probable drowning,’ pending an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
