Novi’s Jason Nunez: A Rising Star in Community Video Production

Novi’s Talented Jason Nunez Shines with Creative Videos

In the vibrant city of Novi, there’s a buzz of excitement surrounding the inspiring work of a local young man named Jason Nunez. At just 26 years old, Jason has carved out a niche for himself in the world of video production, turning his passion into a valuable role within the city’s community relations department. His journey is one of determination, creativity, and a bit of magic, as he shares unique insights about the happenings around Novi.

From the Classroom to the Control Room

Graduating from the Novi Adult Transition Center in June, Jason has always been drawn to the world of videography. He recalls his first taste of video work in middle school, where he honed his editing skills while creating “This week in history” videos. This experience ignited a passion that has now blossomed into a budding career.

Jason’s connection to the city runs deep. For the past six years, he has worked as a building attendant at the city offices, which gave him the perfect opportunity to explore his interests further. Always curious about the workings of the community relations department, he would often drop by to engage with the staff. It was during one of these visits in March 2023, that a golden opportunity knocked on his door.

A New Adventure: Filming City Meetings

Sheryl Walsh-Molloy, the director of communications for Novi, along with her team, recognized Jason’s enthusiasm and technical proficiency. They invited him to join them in filming city meetings. Jason eagerly accepted the challenge, and soon found himself responsible for filming up to seven city meetings each month, including the City Council, Library Board, and Parks and Recreation gatherings.

Jason’s knack for handling the technical aspects of filming, combined with his passion for storytelling, has made him a valuable asset to the city’s community relations team. “His approach is very wholesome,” said senior video production specialist Josh Buscher, remarking on the charming perspective Jason brings to each project. With assistance from the staff for troubleshooting when needed, Jason seamlessly navigates his tasks.

Creating Engaging Content

Working on his videos is a labor of love for Jason. Each project takes about two days from start to finish, involving scriptwriting—often supported by an artificial intelligence app—planning shots, filming, and editing. So far, he has created engaging videos showcasing the city’s butterfly garden, recycling initiatives, and even a brand new firetruck. His work not only highlights Novi’s features but also infuses a refreshing angle that resonates with residents.

Moving forward, there is no shortage of ideas for Jason’s videos, with a full “laundry list” of upcoming projects. Exciting stories like the Japanese event at the high school and the festive Light the Lights ceremony are just some highlights on the horizon. Walsh-Molloy mentioned that Jason’s talent for storytelling coupled with his enthusiasm makes him perfect for such projects.

A Bright Future Ahead

While Jason cherishes every aspect of his role, his dreams extend even further. He aspires to have his own desk in the communications department at the Novi Civic Center, complete with a nameplate. “I’ve been dreaming of having my own video/editing station at Studio Six,” he shared.

His colleagues have nothing but praise for him. “Jason is our shining star,” said Buscher, highlighting how having someone like Jason in the team fills his heart with joy. Their sentiment is echoed throughout the community, as residents appreciate the uplifting and engaging content Jason provides.

In Novi, it’s clear that Jason Nunez is not just a video production assistant; he’s a creative force helping to tell the stories of the community with a unique perspective that is wholly his own. As he continues to capture the essence of Novi through his lenses, his journey serves as an inspiration to many, proving that when you follow your passion, extraordinary things can happen.
