Shiawassee County’s Bright Future

Let’s dive into the specific details that make this expansion initiative something to celebrate! First up, we have Acculevel Inc., which has chosen to set up its regional headquarters in Durand, a charming part of Shiawassee County. This company, known for its foundation repair and waterproofing solutions, is ready to make a big splash in the Midwest manufacturing scene. The ambitious plans for the Durand project include a hefty capital investment of $3.8 million, which is expected to create 52 new jobs. Imagine starting a new job with pay ranging from $48 to $72 per hour, in addition to some attractive benefits!

This expansion is not just about numbers; it will also help decrease the unemployment rate in Shiawassee County, which currently stands at 5.7%. To ensure the project gets off the ground smoothly, the city of Durand has generously offered various resources, including financial and economic commitments.

Van Buren County’s Healthcare Expansion

Next, we shift our focus over to Decatur in Van Buren County, where the company Special-Lite is stepping up its game. Special-Lite specializes in manufacturing commercial doors, and they are expanding their operations to meet the growing demands of the healthcare sector. This project is expected to cost about $15.6 million and create at least 55 new jobs. Currently, Special-Lite employs 184 people at their Decatur facility and 74 at another site in Benton Harbor, so this expansion will surely add to their vibrant workforce!

Kalamazoo’s Culinary Shift

Lastly, we venture to Kalamazoo, a city known for its charm and creativity. Here, Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet is taking significant steps by relocating its production from Montreal back to Kalamazoo. This change necessitates $3.8 million in facility upgrades to accommodate new production lines, paving the way for an additional 22 new jobs. Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet has a solid reputation for creating high-quality outdoor cooking appliances, and this move is sure to further enhance their offerings.

Grants to Support Growth

As part of this initiative, all three businesses will receive substantial support from the Michigan Strategic Fund’s Michigan Business Development Program. Acculevel will benefit from a grant of $250,000, while Special-Lite and Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet will receive grants of $250,000 and $200,000, respectively. This financial support reinforces Michigan’s commitment to fostering growth and creating jobs, ensuring local industries can thrive.
