Lansing School District Student Bags Top Spot in Statewide ‘I Voted’ Sticker Design Contest

Lansing Child’s Design Wins in Statewide ‘I Voted’ Sticker Contest

Announcement of the Statewide “I Voted” Sticker Contest Winners

LANSING — The winners of the statewide “I Voted” sticker contest were announced on Wednesday, revealing a proud moment for a young resident from Lansing. Fifth grader Katelyn Stouffer-Hopkins from Lansing School District’s Post Oak Academy easily stood out from the crowd, winning one of the three coveted spots in the elementary and middle school category.

The Winning Design

Stouffer-Hopkins’ sticker is a playful creation featuring a cartoon character saluting a flag, a smiley face positioned adjacently, and the text “I’m cool, I voted”. This artistic expression may be the one you find gracing your lapel after casting your vote in the general elections on November 5. The victorious stickers are slated to be readily available for election clerks ordering for the upcoming November election.

Democratizing the Sticker Design Process

The statewide “I Voted” sticker contest was launched by the Secretary of State’s Office back in May, with the express objective of fostering increased voter engagement. “Every Michigan voter should walk out of the polls with pride, knowing that their voice has been heard. Now, we can share that pride in our democracy with a sticker designed by some of our state’s most talented and creative artists,” affirmed Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson during the contest’s press release.

Participation in the Contest

The contest stirred up immense interest with more than 480 creative designs being submitted for consideration. True to the spirit of democracy, the people had their say in the selection of the winners, with over 57,700 public votes being cast.

The “I Voted” sticker contest not only contributes to amping up voter engagement but also validates the creative juices of our younger generation, instilling a sense of belonging and validation for participating actively in our democratic processes.
