Celebrating Success: WIOA Youth Program Participants Shine Bright

There’s an air of excitement in the halls of Lenoir Community College as students in the WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) Youth Program achieve impressive academic milestones. With reports highlighting extraordinary performances, it’s a time for celebration and recognition of the hard work these young individuals have put in to achieve their goals.

Spotlight on Academic Excellence

Students participating in the WIOA program have been excelling in their respective fields, with several making the President’s List for maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA. Among those shining examples are Alejandro Gonzalez Bautista and Savannah Boseman, both of whom are enrolled in the Criminal Justice degree program. Alejandro took the initiative to complete an Adult High School Diploma before diving into his studies and now aspires to venture into Intellectual Property Law. Meanwhile, Savannah holds the esteemed position of President of the Student Government Association and is on track to graduate in May, with dreams of working with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

But they aren’t the only ones making waves! Other impressive students include Andrea Mullens Scott, who is rocking a 3.5 GPA in Graphic Arts & Imaging Technology, and Edward Miranda-Perez, who is equally successful in Engineering with the same GPA. Even Michael Anderson is carving out a path for himself, achieving a 4.0 GPA whilst not attending full-time, all while pursuing an associate degree in Criminal Justice. The academic achievements of several other WIOA participants are also noteworthy, highlighting the exceptional talent that is cultivated through this program.

WIOA Career Advisor Position Available

WIOA Career Advisor is now available, offering an annual salary ranging from $33,000 to $38,000. This role comes with diverse responsibilities, including case management, recruitment, assessment, training, and placement of WIOA eligible customers.

Those interested should have a Bachelor’s degree in human services, human resource management, psychology, business, or social work, or have equivalent education and experience. Proficiency in multiple languages could set candidates apart, and they must also possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license. The typical working conditions involve an office environment with some physical demands, like lifting items up to 15 lbs. There may also be evening and weekend hours, alongside occasional travel between campuses.

Fostering Future Success

The essential functions of the WIOA Career Advisor role include ensuring program compliance, managing workforce development activities, and providing top-notch customer care. The successful candidate will also conduct assessments, develop Individual Education/Employment Plans, and engage in outreach through social media platforms to help bring in new talent to the program.

Career Advisors Tracey Price and Deb Blondin have been praising the participants for their remarkable accomplishments, emphasizing how their hard work and resilience have made this success possible. With excellent support from mentors and peers along the way, these students have shown that, when given the opportunity, they can truly shine in their academic pursuits.
