Sponsor Our ArticlesResidents of Livonia, Michigan, are urged to be vigilant following multiple theft incidents involving a suspect at Dunham’s Sports. Local police have set up a hotline for tips to identify the thief, who has evaded detection three times while stealing goods worth over $2,100. In a separate case, a mail theft led police on a chase, resulting in the arrest of a 23-year-old man connected to the crime. Community cooperation is emphasized to help keep Livonia safe.
In the charming city of Livonia, Michigan, residents are keeping their eyes peeled following some recent theft incidents that have caught the attention of local authorities. In an effort to crack down on crime, the Livonia Police Department is reaching out to the community for help identifying a man who has been associated with thefts at a nearby sports store.
It seems a brazen thief has made quite a name for himself at Dunham’s Sports. This individual struck the store not once, but on three separate occasions, cleverly changing his outfit each time to avoid detection. This crafty thief managed to walk away with a staggering $2,100 worth of gear that included everything from coolers to clothing and hunting equipment.
The police are keen on receiving any tips from the public that might help in identifying this suspect. They’ve set up a hotline where you can call Sgt. Salter at 734-466-2324. If you have any information but prefer to stay anonymous, that’s perfectly fine. The police are hoping for quick cooperation from the community to put an end to these thefts.
In a separate and equally puzzling incident, another suspect by the name of Al-Qaadir Walik-Rasool, age 23, found himself in some hot water after allegedly stealing mail in Livonia between January 21 and 22, 2025. Witnesses reported seeing a suspicious black Chevrolet Malibu linked to those thefts, prompting the police to spring into action.
On January 23, law enforcement spotted a vehicle that matched the description. When they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Walik-Rasool didn’t stick around to chat. He sped off, lost control of his vehicle, and made a desperate attempt to escape on foot.
However, his escape plan didn’t quite go as he’d hoped. Officers quickly tracked him down and were surprised to find him hiding in a dumpster, which is definitely not the most glamorous hiding spot! Not only did officers catch him red-handed, but they also uncovered evidence linking him to the mail thefts in his vehicle.
Walik-Rasool has now been charged with multiple offenses, including fleeing and eluding police, resisting arrest, and, quite shockingly, five counts of mail theft. He was arraigned in court on January 24, 2025, and had his bond set at $10,000 cash or surety. His next court date is coming up soon on February 27, 2025, and if convicted, he faces some serious time behind bars. Potential sentences include up to two years for fleeing police, up to two years for resisting arrest, and a year for each count of mail theft.
With these recent developments making waves in Livonia, local residents are encouraged to remain vigilant. Quick reporting of suspicious activities can make a significant impact in keeping the community safe. Let’s all do our part to assist our local law enforcement in their efforts to keep our city a wonderful place to live.
Stay safe, Livonia, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you see something unusual. Together, we can keep our neighborhoods secure!
