Livonia Woman Charged in Human Trafficking Ring Operating Across Metro Detroit Massage Parlors

In a shocking turn of events, a 44-year-old woman from Livonia has been charged with serious offenses related to human trafficking and exploitation. The woman, identified as Zixuan Wan, stands accused of running a human trafficking ring that operated out of several massage parlors scattered across the metro Detroit area.

Authorities have charged Wan with multiple counts, including one count of human trafficking enterprise resulting in commercial sexual activity, as well as other trafficking-related charges. She is also facing a charge of keeping a house of prostitution. After being taken into custody, Wan was placed behind bars with a bond set at $100,000. Should she post the bond, she will be required to wear a GPS tether and surrender her passport, ensuring she cannot flee the jurisdiction while the legal proceedings unfold. Her next court date is coming up soon on March 21, 2025.

The ongoing investigation kicked off back in November 2024 after police received tips about illicit activities being carried out at the massage businesses. As the investigation progressed, officers arrested Wan in early March 2025 when they discovered multiple victims living within her massage parlors located in Farmington Hills, Westland, and Commerce Township.

Among the most distressing findings were four immigrant women from China, who, unfortunately, spoke no English. These women were allegedly held against their will and forced to work long hours, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day of the week. Their situation was dire, as they had restricted access to essential services like transportation and medical care. To make matters worse, these women reportedly received little to no payment for their hard work catering mainly to male clients.

Thankfully, the rescued victims were taken to Common Ground and CARE House of Oakland County for the support and assistance they so desperately needed. The authorities took immediate action, not only to rescue the victims but also to investigate further. The police also executed a search at Wan’s home in Livonia, where they discovered several firearms along with around $140,000 in cash in her bank accounts.

This extensive investigation was a collaborative effort between the Farmington Hills Police Department, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, and Westland Police Department. Chief John Piggott emphasized the importance of inter-agency partnerships that allowed them to successfully rescue the vulnerable victims and apprehend Wan.

Specific signs of illicit operations were apparent at the massage parlors, including inconsistent business hours, a lack of visible signage, and windows that were blacked out. This case is particularly attention-grabbing as it marks the second human trafficking incident involving massage parlors in the Metro Detroit area in recent weeks.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald expressed grave concern over the living conditions of the victims, labeling them as “virtual prisoners.” The investigation doesn’t stop here; authorities are continuing to pursue further leads and expect that there may be additional arrests in connection with this disturbing case.

As this situation unfolds, it serves as a chilling reminder of the darker side of human trafficking and the importance of vigilance in our communities. The authorities are committed to combating these heinous activities and providing support to those impacted by such crimes. Residents are encouraged to stay alert and report any suspicious activities they may observe.
