The company has officially appointed Blair Rich as its new chief marketing and commercial officer. This exciting news comes after Rich spent the past year advising the company on the marketing strategies for two of its highly anticipated films: Dune: Part Two and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Rich’s impressive resume showcases a wealth of experience, and she will now be taking the reins to drive and execute Legendary’s global marketing, branding, and communications efforts. This is a vital role as the company works towards expanding its audience and capitalizing on new technologies in marketing and data analytics.
According to a recent official announcement, Rich will be reporting directly to CEO Joshua Grode and the chair of production Mary Parent when it comes to film marketing. Grode expressed his excitement about the new appointment, stating that “Blair is a creative innovator,” who has a solid history of building some of the most dominant entertainment brands globally. He added that her innovative ideas and expertise would raise the bar not just for Rich, but for the entire Legendary team.
In her statement, Rich expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work with Grode, Parent, and the talented team at Legendary. She highlighted the importance of creativity and innovation in today’s rapidly changing landscape. Rich stated, “In Legendary’s next evolution, we are committed to engaging people in unique, memorable ways, fostering connections that inspire and elevate their experience with our brands while expanding and optimizing new business and revenue opportunities.”
The timing of Rich’s appointment is especially intriguing as it coincides with a new chapter for Legendary. Recently, the company bought out the remaining equity interest held by Wanda Group, a Chinese multinational company. This acquisition means that Legendary is now solely owned by its management and the American equity firm Apollo, which purchased a minority stake in 2022. With Legendary and Apollo now acting as equal partners, the company appears poised for further growth.
Things are looking up financially for Legendary, too. As it stands, Dune: Part Two and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire are among the most profitable films of 2024. These successes have helped push Legendary’s lifetime box office revenue past an impressive total of $20 billion.
The future also holds a range of exciting projects for Legendary. Upcoming films include a Minecraft Movie featuring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, as well as Animal Friends with both Momoa and Ryan Reynolds. There are also adaptations planned for the classic video game Street Fighter, alongside various films in the Godzilla-led Monsterverse and Dune franchises.
With Blair Rich at the helm of marketing and a suite of blockbuster projects in the pipeline, Legendary Entertainment seems set for an exciting journey ahead.
