Marion was born on March 29, 1951, in Princeton, West Virginia. She grew up in a close-knit family, raised by her mother, Freda McCune, and her step-father, William Phipps. When Marion was young, the family relocated to Detroit, where she navigated her childhood and teenage years.
On March 10, 1971, Marion married her soulmate, Robert C. Collum. Their bond was strong, and Marion dedicated herself to her role as a homemaker. Her passion for family was evident in everything she did. She was known for her talents in gardening, canning, and crocheting, all hobbies that brought her joy and allowed her to produce lovely things for her family.
Marion’s family was truly the center of her world. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Lisa Nunley, and a cherished grandmother to five grandchildren: Jessica, Jacquelyn, Julia, Wade Jr., and Isabella. Her two great-grandsons were also a significant source of joy for her. Marion’s commitment to her family was unwavering, and she took great pride in their accomplishments and happiness.
Marion passed away after a courageous battle with health challenges. The community came together to remember her during a visitation held on September 14, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. The funeral service that followed was a touching tribute to her life. Marion’s granddaughters, Jessica and Jacquelyn, had the honor of conducting the service, highlighting her profound influence on their lives.
