MassBay Community College Shines at National Conference

In Framingham, excitement is in the air as MassBay Community College recently brought home some impressive awards from the prestigious National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) District 1 Conference held in Baltimore, Maryland. Their Marketing and Communications Office was recognized with a total of five Medallion Awards, celebrating excellence in marketing, communication, and design among member schools.

What Are the Medallion Awards?

The Medallion Awards are a significant acknowledgment for colleges aiming to highlight their best marketing and public relations projects. Each year, the NCMPR organizes regional conferences in the fall, spanning seven districts, and an annual national conference in the spring. MassBay’s District 1 encompasses a broad range of community and technical colleges from across the northeastern United States, Canadian provinces, and even the United Kingdom.

MassBay’s Impressive Wins

This year’s awards included:

  • Gold in the Logo Wear category, with a standout T-shirt featuring the MassBay American Sign Language (ASL) logo, expressing creativity and inclusion with MassBay spelled out in ASL and the beloved “ASL I love you” sign on the sleeve.
  • Gold in Successful Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Marketing, recognizing the impactful dedication of a conference room to the late Virginius B. Thornton III, a dedicated professor and civil rights leader.
  • Silver in Interior Signage/Displays, showcasing enhanced signs and graphics that adorn the Ashland campus, featuring the vibrant photos from the college’s annual All Vehicle Show.
  • Bronze in Communication Success Story, highlighting the inspiring journey of Shelly Smith, a 2024 graduate who took 29 years to complete her degree at MassBay.
  • Bronze in E-Publications, spotlighting the College’s detailed and informative 2022-2023 Annual Report.

A Notable Honor for Liz Cooper

Adding to the celebratory mood, MassBay’s own Liz Cooper was honored as the Communicator of the Year for NCMPR District 1. This award is a recognition of her hard work and success in enhancing the college’s communications efforts. It’s awarded to a marketing professional who has truly made a mark in college communications and helped elevate the institution in public awareness.

Voices from the College

Sharing the excitement, Jeremy Solomon, the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Marketing & Communications, expressed pride in the achievements of the marketing team. “We are delighted to be recognized for the work of our outstanding marketing team at MassBay,” he mentioned. “The Medallion Awards recognize the best work in our field, and our team is grateful to NCMPR for these honors. Our high-performing team is always striving for new ways to promote our college and support our students on their educational journeys.”

A Strong Team Behind the Success

The dedicated MassBay Marketing & Communications team is made up of exceptional professionals, including Solomon, Cooper, Marketing Project Manager Deni Budd, Web Developer Wendy Walsh, Graphic Designer Nate Principato, and Marketing Content Strategist Ashanty Valentin. Together, they work diligently to ensure the institution’s messages reach the community effectively.

Impactful Learning Opportunities

The NCMPR District 1 conference was a hub of learning, filled with workshops and breakout sessions aimed at empowering marketing and communications professionals from two-year colleges. The sessions focused on enhancing innovation and sparking creativity in areas such as public relations, graphic design, media relations, and website design.

In closing, the recognition achieved by MassBay Community College at the recent conference is a testament to their commitment to excellence in marketing, their dedication to diversity and inclusion, and their invaluable support for students. It’s a proud moment for MassBay and a bright example of the institution’s mission in action.
