Heavy Rainfall Predicted in Southern Michigan with Up to 5 Inches Expected, Enhancing Risk of Flooding

Heavy Downpours Anticipated in Michigan, Up to 5 Inches of Rain Expected

One Michigan area is expected to receive up to 5 inches of rain as slow-moving thunderstorms carrying copious moisture head for southern Michigan

Residents of southern Michigan are preparing for a delicate weather situation tonight and Friday. Slow-moving thunderstorms carrying a considerable amount of moisture are anticipated to bring heavy rains. This potential downpour will not flood all areas but is expected to cause pockets of heavy rainfall throughout southern Michigan.

Wisconsin Weather Gives a Hint

The current weather situation in Wisconsin provides a glimpse of what southern Michigan may experience late tonight and on Friday. Wisconsin has been hit with heavy rainfall in areas of thunderstorms today. As the evening approaches, there are already three flash flood warnings in the central region of Wisconsin due to rain amounts ranging from two to five inches in a short timeframe.

That same area of thunderstorms in Wisconsin will later drift southeast, going over southwest Michigan, then moving east into the Ann Arbor and Detroit areas tonight and into Friday.

Radar Forecast Indicating Heavy Rain Patches

Radar forecasts are projecting patches of heavy rain in thunderstorms throughout Southern and southeastern Michigan overnight. Not all regions will be hit with these downpours, but there will be pockets of heavy rains. Areas with poor drainage systems could face the risk of flooded roads.

These abnormal heavy rains could affect plans. If you have a construction project that might be impacted by heavy rain, it’s recommended to make the necessary preparations to protect your project. Likewise, your commute to work on Friday morning could be affected if you’re in southern and southeastern Michigan.

Probable Areas to Experience Heaviest Rains

Rainfall forecast from a reliable weather model shows that red areas could have scattered rains of up to three to five inches. While the areas affected will not be widespread, there’s an indication that some regions will receive significant amounts of rain. The prediction for the heaviest rains are most likely in the areas from Lansing to Ann Arbor to Detroit by this time Friday.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for the possibility of extremely heavy rain. Aside from the rainfall, the humidity is expected to surge significantly after these rains due to the current tropical air environment.
