Released on Wednesday, the winners span three categories – elementary/middle school (grades K-8), high school (grades 9-12), and general entry (all ages).
In the elementary/middle school category, the triumphant designs came from Jane Hynous of Grosse Pointe, a student at Brownell Middle School, Gabby Warner of Rockford, and Katelyn Stouffer-Hopkins of Lansing.
The high school category showcased the creative prowess of Olivia Smiertka of Holly, student at Holly High School, Michelle Lekhtman of West Bloomfield, a student at West Bloomfield High School, and Andrew Brasher of Saint Louis, a student at Alma High School.
For the open-for-all general category, the winners were Kelsey Winiarski of Livonia, Breanna Tanner of Grand Rapids, and Madelyn VerVaecke of Livonia.
The sticker design competition awakens a sense of civic responsibility and excitement about the electoral process among citizens, especially the younger populace. It provides an understanding and appreciation for exercising one’s voting rights while fostering creativity and design skills.
The winning “I voted” stickers, carrying their inventors’ unique perspectives and artistic interpretations, will be provided to clerks to order and distribute among voters in the upcoming Presidential Election.
The competition not only promotes artistry and innovation but also fosters a sense of community. It provides a platform for citizens to actively contribute to a notable aspect of the democratic process, and share their artwork on a scale that reaches beyond local galleries or school corridors.
No doubt, these sticker designs would bring an additional touch of pride for Michigan’s voters when they step up to make their voices heard in the 2024 Presidential Election.
All the winners have truly left their mark on Michigan’s electoral system with their imaginative and inspiring designs. Their artwork, soon to don Michigan voter’s apparel, will undoubtedly serve as a reminder of the impactful voices Michigan’s citizens harness through their vote.
