Michigan State football players training on the field

News Summary

Michigan State University has welcomed two new defensive backs, Anthony Pinnace III and Tracy Revels, to its football team. These recruits aim to enhance the Spartans’ defensive lineup, following a season marked by injuries in the backfield. With Pinnace’s and Revels’ impressive backgrounds and experience, the Spartans are positioned to build a stronger secondary for the upcoming season and address the recent loss of Dillon Tatum to the transfer portal.

Michigan State Football Steps Up Its Defense with Two New Transfers

East Lansing, MI – Michigan State University’s football team is making some exciting moves as the Spartans have landed two new defensive backs over the weekend! With the program’s focus on strengthening its secondary, these new recruits bring a wealth of talent and skill, promising to enhance the Spartans’ defensive lineup.

Strengthening the Secondary

Michigan State’s secondary coach has been openly vocal about the need for more help in the defensive backfield. With injuries last season sidelining as many as seven defensive backs, the team was in desperate need of depth heading into the new season. To add to their roster, the Spartans turned to the transfer portal this weekend, and they hit a home run with their new selections.

Meet Anthony Pinnace III

The first commitment came late Saturday from Anthony Pinnace III, a junior college cornerback hailing from Ypsilanti. This young athlete made waves at Ann Arbor Huron High School as a quarterback, tossing more than 1,600 passing yards and earning all-state honorable mention in 2021. His versatility is impressive, as he transitioned to playing cornerback during his college career.

Pinnace started his football journey at Independence Community College in Kansas before catching attention with impressive stats, including 10 pass breakups and three interceptions while playing at Iowa Western Community College. After a brief stint at Washington State, he found his way to Michigan State through the transfer portal just one day after entering. With two years of eligibility left, it’s clear Pinnace is eager to make an impact on the field.

Introducing Tracy Revels

The following morning, the Spartans welcomed another standout to their roster: Tracy Revels, a safety formerly with Bowling Green. Revels made a name for himself during his time in 2024, recording 40 tackles and one pass breakup across 12 games, proving his ability to clench down in critical moments. He notably finished as the highest-rated safety for Bowling Green according to Pro Football Focus, showcasing his talent with a score of 70.3.

A three-sport star in high school, Revels didn’t just shine on the football field. He also excelled in track and basketball at Liberty-Eylau High School in Texarkana, Texas. As a three-star recruit exiting high school, he had a variety of Division I options before starting at Bowling Green. Revels has three years of eligibility remaining, giving him plenty of time to develop further in Michigan State’s program.

Impact and Future Prospects

The importance of these new signings cannot be overstated, especially after the Spartans recently lost Dillon Tatum to the transfer portal last week. The team has already brought in three other cornerbacks earlier this year, including players from Oklahoma and Connecticut, which speaks volumes about their focus on building a strong defensive foundation.

With injuries wreaking havoc on the roster last season, the need for reliable players in the defensive backfield has never been greater. The addition of Pinnace and Revels not only helps to bolster the depth chart but also adds experience and skill to the Spartans’ secondary. Fans are surely looking forward to seeing what these new players can bring to the gridiron next season.

Looking Ahead

As Michigan State continues to adapt and grow as a competitive force in college football, the recruitment of these defensive backs paints a bright picture for the future. The Spartans are undoubtedly gaining momentum as they prepare for the upcoming season, and supporters are excited to see how these new talents mesh with the existing squad. With coach Blue Adams leading the charge, all eyes will be on how the defense evolves leading up to kickoff.
