Napa, California – Michigan State Men’s Golf Team Shines at Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational!

The sun was shining bright in Napa, California, as the Michigan State men’s golf team took the Silverado Country Club by storm during the first two rounds of the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational. The greens were lush, but the competition was fierce, with 14 teams vying for the top spot. So, how did the Spartans fare? Let’s dive in!

Making a Splash in the Tournament!

After some hard-fought rounds, Michigan State currently sits in fifth place with a score of 1-under par 575. In the first round, the team posted a score of 3-over par 291 but really found their groove in the second round, shooting a spectacular 4-under par 284. Now that’s what we call a comeback!

Leading the pack overall is Tohoku Fukushi University from Japan, bringing the heat with an impressive score of 14-under par 562. They’ve set the bar high, but Santa Clara University is hot on their heels with a score of 7-under par 569, followed by Nihon University at 6-under par 570. San Francisco rounds out the top four at 2-under par 574.

Outstanding Individual Performances!

On a personal level, junior Caleb Bond is absolutely killing it! He is currently tied for fourth place with a score of 3-under par 141. Over the course of the two rounds, Bond racked up an impressive eight birdies, bringing his impressive season total to 65! His second round saw him finishing strong with a 3-under par 69. In an exciting sequence, he made birdies on three consecutive holes (14-16) and capped off the round with another birdie on 18. Talk about a fantastic finish!

Freshman Drew Miller also had a great day, shooting a total of 2-under par 142 and landing in a tie for seventh place. With back-to-back rounds of 1-under par 71, he matched his season-high for under-par rounds. It’s clear this freshman is making quite a name for himself!

Sophomore Lorenzo Pinili is holding his own as well, tying for 16th place with an even-par score of 144. He managed to notch six birdies throughout the rounds, which brings his season total to an incredible 47, proving he can shake things up on the greens.

Pushing through the field, sophomore Lucas Acevedo posted a total score of 4-over par 148, placing him in a tie for 32nd place. Acevedo’s scores included a round of 4-over par 76, followed by a solid even-par score of 72 in the second round where he played bogey-free on the back nine, showcasing his potential.

Freshman Julian Menser faced a challenging set of rounds, ending up with a score of 10-over par 154, tying for 53rd place. He certainly has room for improvement on the next day!

What’s Next for the Spartans?

The final round of the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational will take place on Tuesday, March 25, starting bright and early at 8 a.m. The Spartans are hoping to take some of this momentum into day three and climb further up the leaderboard. We’ll be eagerly watching to see if they can make a final push towards the top before the tournament wraps up!
