A fundraising event at Pizza Ranch on February 17 will support the project, encouraging contributions for those in need. The initiative highlights the university’s commitment to service and community care.

Mount Marty University Students Set to Make a Big Difference With Hygiene Kits

In an exciting and heartwarming initiative, students at Mount Marty University are coming together to launch a project that embodies the spirit of community and service. This group’s capstone class is not just any ordinary course; it’s a unique opportunity for students from various fields such as Elementary Education, Human Services, and Business to unite for a noble cause. Their mission? To create 200 personal hygiene kits that will be donated to Watertown Cares by February 24th.

Aiming to Care for the Community

The project draws inspiration from the values of hospitality, service, and community engagement that the university upholds. The students understand the significant impact that Watertown Cares has on local residents who find themselves in difficult situations. The organization provides vital services such as temporary housing and personalized case management for individuals striving to find permanent homes. These essential services are crucial, particularly in a time of pressing need.

Since opening its emergency shelter in August 2023, Watertown Cares has been operating at full capacity. The numbers speak for themselves: there is frequently a waiting list of between 20 to 40 individuals looking for assistance. This indicates a strong and urgent need for support within the community, and the students are truly stepping up to help address this situation through their project.

Get Involved!

For those wishing to support these dedicated students in their quest to assemble hygiene kits, mark your calendars for an upcoming fundraising event at Pizza Ranch. The event is set to take place on Monday, February 17th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. During this time, Pizza Ranch will generously donate 10% of all profits made and a whopping 100% of tips earned while the students are on site. Community members are encouraged to stop by for a meal and to contribute to the hygiene kit initiative.

How to Contribute Beyond the Fundraiser

In addition to the planned fundraiser, community support is vital for the success of the project. Donations are welcomed, and checks should be made payable to Mount Marty University with “CAPSTONE” written in the memo line. These can be mailed to PO Box 1385, Watertown, SD 57201. Such contributions will help ensure that the hygiene kits are stocked with essential items that truly make a difference for those in need.

Every Item Matters

The hygiene kits will contain essential items that can have a profound impact on the daily lives of individuals facing hardships. With the help of the community, these students are keen to show that, together, we can make a positive impact and help support those who need it most.

The capstone class at Mount Marty University is incredibly grateful for the community’s ongoing support and encourages everyone to get involved. Whether through participation in the fundraiser or by sending in donations, every little bit helps. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a difference in the lives of many, proving that small acts of kindness can snowball into something much larger. Together, let’s help these students reach their goal of creating 200 hygiene kits and support Watertown Cares in its crucial mission!
