Group of women gathered for a charity meeting in Northville

News Summary

The 100 Women Who Care–Northville have collectively raised over $500,000 for local charities since 2017. This inspiring group meets quarterly to support impactful causes and promote community involvement by showcasing nonprofit presentations, where members vote for recipients of the evening’s donations. As networking opportunities arise, emotional connections foster lasting friendships, amplifying the sense of community. With a growing membership and strong philanthropic goals, they aim to create a better community one charity at a time.

Northville Women Come Together to Make a Difference

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the 100 Women Who Care–Northville organization has raised over $500,000 for local charities since its inception in 2017. This remarkable group of women meets four times a year, creating an engaging atmosphere for both fundraising and camaraderie.

Empowering Women to Give Back

The concept of 100 Women Who Care originated in Jackson, Michigan, in 2006. The idea has since flourished, expanding globally as women unite to make a significant impact. Each member contributes $100 by bringing a check to meetings, resulting in collective donations that often exceed $10,000 in a single evening. It’s simple yet effective—one meeting, one cause, and one powerful outcome.

An Evening of Giving

When the group gathers, the process is both engaging and inspiring. Members nominate local charities to present their missions, and each nominator has three minutes to share their cause with the room. These heartfelt presentations shine a light on deserving organizations, ensuring that many causes receive valuable exposure, even if they don’t receive funding. After the presentations, the members vote to decide which charity will receive the evening’s donations, further creating a sense of community involvement.

Making an Impact

In recent months, donations have made a substantial difference. For instance, in February, Global Health Charities received $14,550 to support its mission of protecting mothers and infants in at-risk communities. Just a few months earlier, Turning Point Services was gifted $18,550 to assist survivors of domestic and sexual violence, as well as human trafficking. This kind of financial support is crucial for these organizations, allowing them to continue their important work.

Networking with a Purpose

It’s not just about the funds, though. Many charities that don’t receive direct financial support greatly benefit from the networking opportunities that arise during meetings. Attendees often forge emotional connections that lead to lasting friendships through shared experiences and stories of care. This sense of camaraderie creates a nurturing environment where members feel supported in their philanthropic efforts.

A Growing Community

Currently, approximately 200 members span Northville and surrounding areas such as Novi, Plymouth, South Lyon, and Rochester Hills. Attendance at meetings can range from 40 to 80 people, depending on the evening, creating a lively atmosphere full of passion and purpose. Even if a member can’t attend, the group’s flexible options ensure that everyone can still contribute. Presentations are recorded, so those who miss a meeting can catch up on the charities and remain fully informed.

Supporting the Good Work

Additionally, funding is further reinforced by a generous $5,000 quarterly match from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, amplifying the impact of each meeting. The co-founders of the Northville chapter emphasize that the experience of doing good fosters a strong sense of community and kindness among members.
