Step into the world of the bizarre and unusual this weekend as the Oddities and Curiosities Expo comes to Novi’s Suburban Collection Showplace. This unique event, filled with preserved reptile embryos, taxidermized cowboy ducklings, and jewelry crafted from human teeth, is set to turn heads.
Since its inception in 2017 by founders Michelle and Tony Cozzaglio, the expo has drawn crowds of curious attendees eager to see the strange and uncanny items on display. This year, hand-selected vendors, dealers, artists and small businesses specializing in horrific, quirky, and unusual creations will be showcasing their works. The carefully curated event covers a wide range of oddities — from bones to diaphanized specimens, taxidermized animals, dark art, and odd jewelry.
But the Expo doesn’t stop at collections of curiosities. Be ready for photo ops, tarot readings, and sideshow performances curated to appeal to the lovers of the bizarre.
If you’re feeling adventurous and have a liking for the eccentric, the Expo offers a chance to learn some new skills with unique workshops. You can create your own full-sized taxidermy mounts with rat and jackalope taxidermy classes priced at $225. For a slightly less daunting experience, the butterfly pinning and preservation workshop can be joined at $150. All animals used in these workshops have died of natural causes and are ethically sourced.
The expo runs Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets for enthusiasts of the eerie can be acquired for $12 in advance and $15 on the day of the event. And for the younger audience? Admission is free for children aged 12 and younger. However, caution is advised for parents — while all ages are welcome, the frightful and uncanny nature of the expo might be too overwhelming for some kids.
The Oddities and Curiosities Expo in Novi isn’t your typical weekend event — it’s a fantastical gathering for those captivated by the bizarre, abnormal and outlandish. For guests who revel in the odd, eccentric, and spine-chilling, there’s no better place to venture into the uncanny.
