Plymouth, a charming city known for its rich history and tight-knit community, recently came alive with the festive spirit during the much-anticipated Christmas in the Village festival. This year marked an exciting milestone as the festival celebrated its 10th anniversary on December 22 and 23, 2024. If you didn’t make it this time, you definitely missed an event that felt like something straight out of a holiday movie!
The festivities kicked off on the first day with the annual Parade of Lights at 6:30 p.m. Amongst the twinkling lights and cheerful floats, families gathered to enjoy the spectacular display. The excitement continued to build as night fell and the beautiful fireworks lit up the sky at 9 p.m., leaving attendees in awe and sparkling anticipation for what was to come.
The heart of the festival featured a treasure trove of free activities that truly demonstrated the spirit of community. Funded by local businesses, the event provided something for everyone, from a delightful small business shopping market to a lineup of scrumptious food trucks serving up tasty bites. Local musicians and entertainers brought joy to the crowd, while a charming ice skating rink and a captivating model train exhibit kept spirits high and smiles wide.
For the little ones, a special appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Plymouth Public Library was a highlight of their holiday wishes. Children had the chance to interact with the beloved couple, sharing their gift lists and soaking up the magic of the season. The joy in the air was contagious, and it’s safe to say that those smiles lit up the entire area even more than the festive lights!
The Plymouth Improvement Committee played a crucial role in organizing this heartwarming festival, with significant collaboration from village contributors like Village Roots. Their hard work and dedication created an inviting atmosphere that reminded everyone of a classic Hallmark movie, brimming with lights, carriage rides, and delicious holiday treats, making it a truly unforgettable experience for all.
The warmth of holiday celebrations and community spirit stretched beyond just Plymouth, as nearby Richland County also hosted parades, tree lighting ceremonies, and festive events at Kingwood. Historical tours and unique festivities brought people together, creating a season filled with joy, laughter, and cherished memories.
As attendees prepared for day two on December 23, the weather forecast was a bit dreary with cloudy conditions. The high was expected to reach around 37°F, with a 70% chance of rain in foresight. Winds blew from the SSW, adding a chill, but with a low of 33°F for the night, attendees were bundled and ready to enjoy the festivities despite a patch of fog creeping in.
Plymouth’s Christmas in the Village festival serves as a beautiful reminder of what the season is all about—community connection, celebration, and joy. With so much support from local businesses and organizations, the festivities remained free for everyone to enjoy. Here’s to many more years of holiday cheer in our beloved Plymouth!
