Young Pro-Life Interns Spend Summer Changing Hearts and Minds in Novi Area

Over the course of this summer, Holy Family Parish in Novi has been buzzing with a unique blend of youthful energy and heartfelt dedication, as 22 pro-life young interns have been serving with the organization Protect Life Michigan. Their mission? To engage locals about the topic of abortion, aiming to foster understanding and change perspectives through dialogues and peaceful outreach.

The organization Protect Life Michigan is known for standing for the sanctity and protection of all human life, laboring towards a world free from abortion. The young interns, all high school and college-aged students from across the state, have been stationed at Holy Family Parish from May until August, with the ambition to be pro-life advocates.

Over the summer, the interns focused on pro-life street evangelization through sidewalk counseling, knocking on doors, and initiating thoughtful conversations with community members about abortion. Holy Family Parish became their de facto home base, where they gathered for prayers, training, and, most importantly, fortifying themselves spiritually before stepping out into the community.

This summer’s internship marks the first time that the organization has run a full-time program, beginning from mid-May and continuing through to mid-August. The majority of the interns resided in local rental homes, with the Parish serving as their primary meeting and training point.

The effects of their work in the community have been profoundly moving. Reports indicate that their efforts resulted in over 148,000 people engaging with the pro-life message and a significant shift in pro-life and pro-choice sentiment within the community members who interacted with the interns.

Perhaps most strikingly, the interns noted the transformative power of one-on-one conversation. Many recounted instances where a simple, earnest dialogue led to a profound change in an individual’s stance on abortion.

Despite the emotionally challenging nature of their work, the interns are not deterred, as they see their role as crucial in fighting for the rights of the unborn. Looking towards the future, it is anticipated that Protect Life Michigan will continue the internship program given its success, potentially choosing other locations to continue their transformative outreach.

The young interns’ devotion to serving their community, coupled with the eye-opening nature of their experiences, has made for a summer that has left a lasting impression – revealing just how powerful the voice of the young generation can be when advocating for a cause close to their heart.
