Redford Township Police Injured While Arresting Stolen Vehicle Suspect

Redford Township Police Face Off with Stolen Vehicle Suspect

In Redford Township, Michigan, a volatile confrontation unfolded recently as police pursued a man driving a vehicle reported stolen. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, September 18, not only led to a dramatic chase but also left two officers injured during a physical struggle with the suspect.

A Chase Begins

According to a police report, officers received a call regarding an occupied stolen van in the area around Dalby and 8 Mile. Upon spotting the vehicle, they attempted to make an arrest. However, the driver, identified as Robbin Lagrande Gough Jr., had other plans. He quickly sped off in the stolen vehicle, prompting officers to kick into high gear.

Thankfully, it was a brief chase. Officers were able to coordinate and successfully box in Gough’s van, bringing it to a complete stop. Authorities highlighted that this decisive action mitigated potential risks to the public, ensuring that no bystanders were hurt in the process.

A Tumultuous Ending

Once Gough’s vehicle was brought to a halt, the situation escalated quickly. When officers attempted to remove him from the van, a physical altercation ensued. During the struggle, two officers sustained injuries and had to be transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, their injuries were reported as non-life-threatening, and they were later discharged after receiving care.

Mounting Charges

The next day, on Thursday, September 19, Gough faced a court hearing where he was arraigned under a warrant. He was slapped with four felonies and was identified as a habitual offender for the fourth time. The court set his bond at a staggering $1,000,000 and mandated that he wear a GPS tether while awaiting trial.

This incident seems to be part of a larger pattern for Gough. Authorities indicated he had previously been granted parole but had notably failed to comply with the conditions set forth during that time. Additionally, it’s alleged that he was involved in several other crimes leading up to the events of September 18, and even more charges may be on the horizon.

A Community on Alert

The situation has raised eyebrows and concern within the local community. Redford Township residents are likely feeling a mix of relief and unease—relieved that law enforcement was able to contain the suspect without any serious harm to the public, yet uneasy about the presence of crime in their neighborhood.

The police department continues to reassure the community that they are committed to keeping residents safe. They also remind the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Meanwhile, as Gough awaits further proceedings related to his significant legal troubles, the Redford Township police force remains focused on serving and protecting the area.

Looking Ahead

As this story continues to develop, Gough’s upcoming court appearances will be closely watched. The legal system will now take its course to determine the future for both the suspect and the injured officers. One thing is clear: the incident has been a stark reminder of the risks law enforcement faces on a daily basis while maintaining safety in our communities.
