The community remembers Joseph Michael Weishaar, renowned for his home remodeling expertise and deep family values. A veteran and dedicated craftsman, Joe’s legacy lives on as families gather to honor his contributions to home renovation and community spirit. His influence will inspire future generations to embrace creativity and craftsmanship in their own home projects.
As the community gathers to pay tribute to the remarkable Joseph Michael Weishaar, who passed away quietly surrounded by his loved ones on February 12, 2025, memories are flooding in about his legendary home remodeling skills. Born on May 27, 1931, in Detroit, Michigan, Joe was more than just a man skilled with tools; he was the embodiment of family values, community spirit, and a DIY enthusiast whose influence will be felt for generations.
Joseph’s journey began after he graduated from high school in 1949. Shortly after, he proudly served in the United States Army as a demolition engineer. While most people might find such a job daunting, Joe turned it into a stepping stone that only enhanced his knack for home improvement. Numerous projects in renovated kitchens, living rooms, and even backyard patios showcased his creativity. After marrying Barbara Ann Weiss on June 21, 1958, the couple started their family in St. Claire Shores. They later moved to Fostoria, where Joe combined his talents with a small farming lifestyle.
Throughout his 35 years at General Motors as a tool and die maker, Joe’s work ethic was remarkable. He was known among coworkers for his meticulous attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to quality. It wasn’t just his day job that showcased his skills; he became the go-to guy for friends and neighbors looking to renovate their homes or tackle DIY projects. Joe had a knack for transforming mundane spaces into stunning areas of relaxation and joy.
Beyond home remodeling, Joseph found solace in nature. His love for fishing, hunting, and camping was evident during family gatherings at their property in Benzonia, MI. Joe would take his family out on the lake in his boats, teaching them the art of fishing for salmon and walleye in Lake Michigan. These experiences brought the family closer and instilled a profound love for the outdoors.
Joe was not just a skilled craftsman or an outdoor enthusiast; he was also a loving father and grandfather. Survived by his children Amy Bobian, Joseph Weishaar, Susan Weishaar, and Mary Green, as well as six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, his legacy will continue through them. His wife, Barbara, who passed away years prior, shared his values of curiosity, honesty, and kindness. Joe’s wisdom and love were often visible as he engaged with his children, passing down essential life lessons that will resonate for generations.
The community is invited to remember Joseph Weishaar with a visitation scheduled for February 16, 2025, from 12 to 4 p.m. at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. A Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m., followed by a funeral service on February 17, 2025, officiated by Father Michael Gawlowski. Military honors will be granted by American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard after the service, celebrating Joe’s dedication to his country.
As many gather to share stories and fond memories, it’s clear that Joseph Michael Weishaar was more than just an expert in home renovation. His compassion, commitment to family, and shared experiences on fishing boats and hunting trips create a rich tapestry of a life well-lived. For those wishing to honor his memory, memorial contributions can be made to organizations like Tight Lines for Troops or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
The spirit of a DIY legend will continue to inspire individuals to approach their home renovation projects with a sense of adventure and creativity.
