Get Ready for a Fiesta! Novi Taco Fest Kicks Off for Its Third Year

No better way to test your love for tacos than at the Novi Taco Fest happening this weekend. Kicking off on Friday, the three-day festival is one of the biggest culinary events in the city. Situated at the Twelve Mile Crossing at Fountain Walk, just across from Twelve Oaks Mall, the event drew in thousands of taco lovers in its last editions.

They’re not messing around with the food trucks – 35 taco trucks, to be exact, are dishing out an array of goodies. But it’s not only about the taco trucks – there are a bunch of other food vendors and retailers in the mix. And if last year’s numbers are anything to go by, the organizers are expecting a crowd of 25,000 food lovers over the weekend.

And because who doesn’t love a good contest, there are multiple competitions as well. From taco-eating and hot pepper-eating contests to an adorable dog contest – there’s a little bit of everything. Who will be this year’s ultimate taco champion? Or the tough guy who takes the win in the hot pepper contest? We’re as excited to find out as you are!

It’s no wonder that one of the attendees, mother-of-one, Chiquita Reed, came back for seconds. She shared her excitement, “The Fountain Walk is really where I come to hang out. So, I love to come here. All the festivals, the barbecue festival that they had a couple of months ago. I was here,” she said.

That’s the vibe here. Event-goers are loving the energy, and even the contestants are having a blast. David Junker, one of the fiery contestants from the hot pepper-eating contest, revealed his winning strategy, “Eat fast and swallow as fast as you can,” he chuckled.

The fest was once an art fair three years ago. Today, it’s become a feast-fest people eagerly anticipate every year. It’s good news for everyone on the western side of metro Detroit, the mall folks are stoked about the event, and well, who doesn’t appreciate a good food fest?
