Westland Couple Celebrates 79 Years of Marriage with Family Brunch

Westland is buzzing with excitement as one of its beloved couples, *Henry and Emma Timmermann*, prepares to celebrate a remarkable milestone: their 79th wedding anniversary on February 9. This extraordinary couple has shared a journey filled with love, adventure, and a few amusing stories along the way.

From Germany to the U.S.

Henry’s adventure began in June 1924 when he was born in Germany. As a toddler, his family made the brave decision to migrate to the U.S., seeking new opportunities and brighter horizons. Who could have known that Henry would eventually meet the love of his life in such an unexpected place?

Meet-Cute at a Halloween Party

Henry and Emma first crossed paths at a church Halloween party, right after the conclusion of World War II. It was a time of rebuilding, and both had their own contributions to the war effort; Emma served as a *”Rosie the Riveter”* at Stinson Aircraft while Henry worked as a carpenter. Although Henry wished to join the fight, he was classified as an *”enemy alien.”* However, he soon became a U.S. citizen by the end of 1945 and found a greater love than he could have ever imagined.

A Quick Proposal and a Winter Wedding

Just under three months after their initial date at a drive-in theater, Henry decided to pop the big question to Emma. They originally envisioned a summer wedding, but Henry’s busy work schedule nudged them toward a cozy winter wedding at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wayne, Michigan. This decision certainly added to the charm of their love story.

Pre-Wedding Shenanigans

The night before the wedding, Emma’s male cousins took Henry out to celebrate, which led to a bit of a *”hair of the dog”* situation on their special day. Talk about a *sneak peek* into their life together, filled with laughter and love!

Building a Family and a Home

After tying the knot, they rented a house near a pig farm, embracing the rustic life for a while. However, it wasn’t long before they decided to build their dream home. Despite financial challenges, Henry dedicated **ten years** to constructing their home on Manila Street in Westland. Emma displayed her practicality by asking for a basement as a Christmas gift, and as expected, she got right to work digging it out!

Life at Ford and Travel Adventures

Henry went on to spend an impressive **30 years** working for Ford. He started at the Ford-Wayne plant before winding up at the Wixom plant. The couple later enjoyed a wealth of adventures, traveling all over the U.S. and Canada—even going on a three-month trek to Alaska. They proudly stand as seasoned globetrotters, having visited all seven continents, including places like Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

A Growing Family

Over the years, Henry and Emma welcomed five wonderful children: *Harold, Henry, Janet, David,* and *Elaine*. Their family tree has blossomed, with a remarkable *25 great-grandchildren,* *18 grandchildren,* and *15 great-great-grandchildren* joining their ranks. It’s no wonder they have so much to celebrate!

Celebrating 79 Years of Love

As the anniversary approaches, the couple is gearing up for a joyful family brunch filled with love, laughter, and heartfelt memories. Though they might not catch the Super Bowl this year, they wholeheartedly believe that their *life together is one massive victory,* one that they cherish every day.

With 79 years of love stories and adventures behind them, Henry and Emma Timmermann are true inspirations. Their journey reminds us all of the beauty of lasting love and the special connections we create over a lifetime.
