USA Hockey has revealed a preliminary roster of 29 players vying for a position on the 2024 U.S. National Junior Team, set to compete at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden. Eight members from last year’s bronze medal-winning team return, and a training camp will take place in Plymouth, Michigan, to finalize the roster. This highly skilled group of athletes will be gearing up for the IIHF World Junior Championship, happening from December 26, 2023, to January 5, 2024, in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Among the lineup, the excitement is even higher because eight members from the bronze medal-winning 2023 U.S. National Junior Team are returning to show that they have even more to offer this time around. With a strong foundation built on past success, these players are set to inspire their teammates and spark new energy in the upcoming championship.
Before they hit the international stage, there will be a training camp at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan, from December 14 to 16. This is where players will compete for one of the final 25 spots on the roster, so you can bet there will be some serious talent on display! How cool would it be to watch these future stars train? And guess what? The training camp practices will be open to the public starting at 11:30 a.m. ET each day. So, come out and show your support!
The preliminary roster features a solid mix of athletes, showcasing the nation’s best up-and-coming talent. This group includes three goaltenders, 10 defensemen, and 16 forwards. Players hail from 11 different states, with Minnesota leading the charge by contributing a whopping seven players. Talk about state pride!
It seems it’s a good time to be a fan of making that leap to the big leagues, as a dizzying 24 players have already been drafted by NHL teams. This includes ten impressive first-round selections and seven second-round picks! Every game played at the IIHF World Junior Championship will be broadcasted on NHL Network, so mark your calendars and get ready for some thrilling action!
The 2024 U.S. National Junior Team will be in expert hands, with David Carle from the University of Denver stepping in as head coach. He will be supported by a strong coaching staff, including coaches from prestigious hockey programs, ensuring these young players receive top-notch guidance as they prepare to take on the world.
When the championship kicks off, Team USA will be facing off against Group B opponents, which include Czechia, Norway, Slovakia, and Switzerland. The competition is heating up as Team USA has made a name for itself in the history of the IIHF World Junior Championships, having medaled in six of the last eight tournaments, including a bronze last year.
Looking at the roster, it’s worth noting that 21 players have played at least a game with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, with 18 of them being full-time members of this competitive two-year residency program. Impressively, 26 players are currently playing or are committed to playing NCAA Division I men’s hockey, while three players are showcasing their skills in the OHL.
