Westland, Michigan – It’s time for local school board elections in Wayne County, and we have an exciting line-up of both seasoned leaders and new challengers showing interest. The elections will be held on the forthcoming Election Day, slated for Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Who’s Running in Wayne-Westland Community Schools
For the Wayne-Westland Community Schools Board of Education elections, two candidates have thrown their hats in the ring for two open six-year term seats. Candidate Fred Weaver, a longstanding trustee, will be running along with newcomer Shannon Rochon, who recently vied for Wayne’s state House seat. Andrew Ambrus is also on the ballot, running unopposed for an open two-year term on the board. On a note, current President Bradley Gray and trustee Mark Neal have chosen not to run for re-election. The board is poised to navigate major budget issues and look into the current superintendent, John Dignan.
Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Elections
Over at Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Board of Education, we’ve got two candidates competing for one open two-year term seat. The candidates include Patti McCoin, Jennifer Vos, and Faize El-Khali, with McCoin serving on the board since her appointment last year. Usually, the board members are elected to a span of four-year to six-year terms.
Livonia Public Schools Candidates
At Livonia Public Schools Board of Education, we’ve got five candidates running for four open four-year term seats. Karen Bradford, Crystal Frank, Madeline Acosta, Pamela Morgan, and David MacFarland have all declared their candidacies. Current members Bradford, Frank and Acosta are seeking re-election, while board trustee Tammy Bonifield has decided not to run again.
Garden City Public Schools Elections
Garden City Public Schools Board of Education elections have an interesting twist, where two applicants have filed for three open seats. Incumbents Sarah Roffi and Lynette Childress are both running for re-election and will serve for another four-year term. Existing member Darlene Jablonowski, however, is not seeking a second term. The board will have to appoint someone to fill the third remaining seat when Jablonowski’s term concludes at the year’s end.
