In the thriving city of Wayne County, it is not unusual to encounter unique, colorful characters. Local content creators Garrett Fuller and Mike Smith have taken to the internet to capture their hometown’s distinct flavor through a TikTok page named WayneCountyLyfe.
Garrett Fuller, a 39-year-old Garden City resident, vividly portrays various impersonations in public and on the internet. Instead of his real name, he is often referred to as Dip Cup, Cody, Traylen, or Uncle Terry. Along with Mike Smith from Royal Oak, Fuller has been creating internet videos under the moniker WayneCountyLyfe since 2016. The pair’s online endeavors have amassed a whopping half a million followers and tens of millions of likes across various platforms including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook.
Fuller plays a cast of four characters inspired by the people you’re likely to come across in Wayne County. Cody Baddenhoop, his first character, claims to be related to Eminem and is often seen enjoying Faygo Moon Mist with a Caesar-style haircut. Traylen, the latest addition to the ensemble, is the quintessential clean-cut golf dad. A fan favorite, Dip Cup, is known for his love for trucks, football, rock bands, and his high-visibility clothing. Lastly, Uncle Terry, based on Fuller’s uncles and past baseball coaches, exudes a questionable level of bravado. Each character’s relatability and likability have played a major role in the success of their online community.
Two years ago, Fuller decided to transform his part-time hobby into a full-time profession. The duo makes a living through ad revenue, a Patreon account, brand partnerships, and custom video creation through platforms such as Cameo. Fuller describes the transition as a dream come true.
The initiative that started as a small-scale operation has gradually grown into a well-planned social media campaign. Behind the scenes, Smith, who prefers to keep his identity undisclosed, oversees all planning, posting, and editing of the videos. They aim to capture more aspects of their community and add to the WayneCountyLyfe universe.
The duo has successfully created an engaging online community where followers actively engage in their humorous content. Fuller’s intention to share the charm of his hometown resonates within the WayneCountyLyfe community and residents of the county itself. “I want to bring light to the town… I love it, I want to highlight everything going on in town all the time”, exclaims Fuller. Despite their increasing popularity, the creators remain committed to maintaining the authenticity of Wayne County life in their content.
