Man in Westland Charged in Fatal Stabbing Incident

A man in Westland is facing charges after being linked to a fatal stabbing incident, as confirmed by local authorities. The 48-year-old suspect, identified as Richard Waltiere Jr., stood before a judge on Wednesday, facing a serious accusation of second degree murder.

During the session at the 18th District Court, Magistrate David Wiacek decided that Waltiere’s bail would be a whopping $1 million. Information about the court-appointed lawyer defending Waltiere wasn’t available on the online court records as of Wednesday afternoon.

According to the police, Waltiere was taken into custody early Monday morning, around 4 a.m., after being singled out as a suspect in the recent stabbing. The unfortunate incident happened on Sunday evening, around 8 p.m., in an area close to Grand Traverse Street and Missaukee Court. Police on the scene found a 58-year-old Westland man, later identified as Donald Soulliere, lying on the ground, unconscious but still breathing.

Emergency services rushed Soulliere to the Beaumont Annapolis Hospital, but sadly, he could not survive his injuries.

The legal proceedings for Waltiere are expected to continue with a probable cause hearing on Aug. 29, and a preliminary hearing on Sept. 5, both at the 18th District Court.

Metro Detroit law enforcement authorities are certainly having a busy summer, as they’re also investigating other lethal stabbings that occurred recently, one in Redford Township in June, and another in Clinton Township last month.
