Westland, Mich. – A quiet Sunday evening suddenly turned tragic when local police officers were called to the corner of Grand Traverse and Missaukee Court at around 8 p.m. They discovered a man, later identified as 58-year-old Donald Soulliere of Westland, unconscious and struggling to breathe. Further investigation revealed that Soulliere had been the victim of a stabbing.
The officers instantly began life-saving attempts before rushing Soulliere to Beaumont Annapolis Hospital. Unfortunately, he was unable to pull through, and succumbed to his injuries.
Intense investigations led officers to 48-year-old Richard Waltiere Jr., also a Westland resident. He was picked up by the police around 4 a.m. on Monday and placed into custody. Waltiere has since been arraigned on charges of homicide and second-degree murder, with a bond set at an eye-watering sum of $1,000,000.
According to local law enforcement, Waltiere is due back in court for a probable cause hearing on Aug. 29 at 9 a.m. This is set to be followed by a preliminary hearing on Sept. 5.
While law enforcement officials have yet to disclose the motive behind this heartbreaking incident, the city waits with bated breath for forthcoming updates on this shocking case.
Please remember to extend a modicum of patience and understanding to all parties involved during this difficult time.
